9- Elders and Autocracy
When I turned sixty, I said to myself: “Here I am in a separate category”. But I never thought that older people would be marginalized so much. There are those ... I should especially those, but not all ... who try to impose their laws according to the place they occupy in the group. Their apartment in multiple residences, their place in the bus, their seat in the restaurants, their space in the car and I would add the sidewalks, the stores and the cinemas… are the strong points of their cavalcade. I have to stop, I'm going crazy. It must be said, the matriarchal regime was well established even before feminist groups showed up. I go beyond saying that the majority of feminists have claimed the same power outside the home as they had inside. The mothers on my street always had their husband's pay on Fridays at 5 o'clock. They administered without conditions. I inherited and adopted this culture and I'm not dead... at least not yet. Except that today, I realize that these people have become boring with their congeners. They try to perpetuate their grasp on others. A general trait when they are in groups. They speak loud and clear so that the plebs are aware of the subliminal messages that they believe they must transmit. Curiously, the people targeted are always a few meters away. This applies when they are in a group in places of amusement… to play cards, pétanque, “shuffle board”… Lord… I could. This also applies in buses for example; they will dislodge a passenger from his seat to take their place using all the pretexts inherent in their age. In the St-Hubert, McDonald's, Tin Horton's and Burger King restaurants (when there are specials), they try to get in front of the "line" because they are dead tired when they have just left of their car. "If you're tired m ... stay at home". They will sit for hours (I saw until 3:45 in the same place) to chat with friends and sip a coffee because the second and the following are free. They smear the newspaper, tear it up to grab the specials when they just can't fit it in their pocket. Fortunately, some restaurants require a deposit to counter the "theft" ... they understood them others. The elderly are a problem in cars. Look at them driving… There are 24 centimeters between them and the steering wheel. It is not they who hold the steering wheel, it is the steering wheel which holds them. I prefer to follow them (from a distance) because I feel safer behind them than in front. Especially since they cheat on their visual acuity when they pass the examinations required by the SAAQ. It is not the fault of the optometrist, but of the one who accompanies her ... the friend-client ... who places herself at an angle with her to indicate the answers. It's not beautiful that ... beautiful mutual aid. And when they "occupy" the sidewalk rather than the street, expect to leave that sidewalk, because they will squeeze you into the street. A little trick that I experimented … when the meeting is imminent, freeze in place and you will see the beautiful results. They "shop" two by two, because three by three, there will always be one who will be a bone of contention. In the big box stores, they go to all the lingerie or clothing departments … to see what might suit them or I should say what might be negotiable. For example, they will inspect the piece to find imperfections on the fabric, a loose thread, a stain, a button that no longer holds and, above all, to exchange labels. I stop ... I'm going crazy ... to say that I fall into this category, but what reassures me is that not all elders are like that. Finally I will see...
